"You are the salt of the earth.
But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?
It is no longer good for anything,
except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
You are the light of the world.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.
Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before men,
that they may see your good deeds and
praise your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:13-16

Salt and Light by Bernie Rosage
What a difference salt and light make! Both are necessary for life and are a powerful illustration of our influence and responsibility as Christians - how we can live a Christian example that penetrates our world and be a spoken witness that brings focus to it.
Salt brings out the best in what it seasons – encourage the best in others. Salt preserves – preserve God’s moral standards by righteous living. Salt purifies – fight decay, corruption and evil while keeping ourselves from being influenced by sin in the world. Salt heals – minister to the spiritually sick who need Jesus. Salt makes us thirsty - thirsty to know and share Christ with others.
Light illuminates – know the truth and stand firm in it. Light reflects - reflect the person of Christ to others. Light draws – draw others toward a better way by our example. Light warms – share the comfort and hope we have in our faith.
How flavorful is your salt – has it become stale or bland or overpowering? Does your light help others see or is it dim or even hidden?
