WISDOM - Proverbs 16

The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction.
Prudence is a fountain of life to the prudent, but folly brings punishment to fools.”
Proverbs 16:21-22
In Proverbs 16, Solomon reveals God’s sovereignty, mercy and truth plus wisdom.  Each proverb represents a practical choice and most are similarities or comparisons.  Overall God governs, made all things, judges all things and everything is under the direction of the Lord.

In Proverbs 16:21, the truly wise in heart will demonstrate it in life.  They will increase their learning, share knowledge with others, share well-spoken words full of grace at the right time to benefit others and gain a good reputation in the process.  They realize it’s not just about having good sense or true thoughts in their own minds but being instrumental in the edification of others.

In Proverbs 16:22-24, there is a slight thread of connection from praise to excellence to commendation of wisdom.  True wisdom is not only deep in the heart, but active in life. It is a clear understanding and right judgement that gives perpetual comfort and satisfaction plus makes the possessor useful to others.  It is evident when it directs what to speak, when and how so that it is pertinent and increases learning in others. It provides pleasant and wholesome words that bring spiritual strength, enjoyment to the whole person and health to the body.
