WISDOM - Proverbs 22

“Listen to the words of the wise;

apply your heart to my instruction.

For it is good to keep these sayings in your heart

and always ready on your lips.

I am teaching you today—yes, you— so you will trust in the Lord.”

Proverbs 22:17-19

In Proverbs 22, Solomon focuses on the importance of applying instructions.  Proverbs 22:17 through Proverbs 24:22 includes 30 sayings of the wise which are filled with advice, knowledge and truth.  The structure of these sayings is longer and arranged by theme.

In Proverbs 22:17-19, Solomon states the purpose of the words of a wise man.  They are to be carefully heard with humility and deep attention, but also meditated and pondered.  They are to be stored in the heart, treasured and retained so they can be used to teach others.  They are to encourage belief and trust in the Lord so faith is increased, confirmed and established.
