“I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God.
I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me,
so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting
people may know there is none besides me.
I am the Lord, and there is no other.”
Isaiah 45:5-6
Attributes are qualities or features which are characteristic of someone or something. The attributes of God explain His nature, defining each part of His expansive character. Although God is far above our ability to fully understand, He reveals truths about Himself through Scripture and creation so we can know what He is like. God is personal and displays His character in actions.
God’s attributes can be categorized into “incommunicable” (qualities of God alone) and others are “communicable” (qualities of both God and man, though only He possesses perfectly). God, however, is one of a kind, He is unique and He is without comparison. Our words are not always adequate to capture who He is or describe Him, but Scripture provides clear descriptions of who He is and what is important to Him. Plus, God revealed Himself through Jesus, the incarnate God, for 33 years.
Join me as we seek to understand Him better together through His attributes to enhance our intimate relationship with Him and worship Him and His character!
