“Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.
Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”
Proverbs 4:5-7
Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”
Proverbs 4:5-7
In Proverbs 4, Solomon gives instruction about wisdom and caution for its
preservation. It is an exhortation to seek and study wisdom, avoid bad company
and continue in truth, integrity and uprightness. Direction is given for every
part of us for life and health - heart, mouth, lips, eyes and feet. Direction is also
given for obtaining and preserving wisdom.
Proverbs 4:5-7 encourages believers to not only accept, but love wisdom like a
treasured possession. Wisdom begins with desire for God’s word and using all
means to obtain a greater knowledge of Christ. Wisdom is for the soul for eternity.
True wisdom is God’s gift and is obtained by experience with Him. Wisdom is the
principle thing and we are to hold on to it and preserve it by paying attention,
keeping it within our heart, fixing our gaze straight ahead, giving thought to our
path and being steadfast in all our ways.
