“Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning,
but a rod is for the back of one who has no sense
The wise store up knowledge,
but the mouth of a fool invites ruin”
Proverbs 10:13-14

Proverbs 10 begins a series of two-phase single verse sayings and this arrangement
continues through Proverbs 22. Solomon’s proverbs reveal the blessings and curse
of life and each expresses a complete idea and represents a practical choice. In this
chapter, Solomon reveals that believers are wise, righteous and spiritually wealthy.
Proverbs 10:13-14 shows that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks
wisdom. Wisdom takes knowledge and makes it accessible to be used for personal
preservation and to make others wise. Believers increase knowledge by reading,
prayer, meditation, memorization, hearing the word of God, and conversation with
mature believers. A wise believer soaks up all God has to offer him, retains it,
treasures it and uses it to benefit others.
