“The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life,

turning a person from the snares of death.” Proverbs 13:14
In Proverb 13, Solomon emphasises moral values. He contrasts the wise
and fools plus the righteous and the wicked. Believers are to heed
instruction, walk with the wise, be satisfied, and shine brightly.
In Proverbs 13:14, the teaching of the wise is the rule by which they
regulate their conduct - the doctrine, instruction or counsel of the word of
God. God’s word is a continual source of life for all who receive it, a
fountain of living water, a constant spring of comfort and satisfaction,
for the wise. It revives and refreshes the soul bringing life and happiness.
There is a symbiotic harmony between hearing and heeding God’s word
and the quality of life. Understanding and obedience keep believers at a
distance from traps that destroy both spiritually and materially.
